Clip brush off in 50% Ethanol or Cytolyt (call 847-5121 for Cytolyt). Due to problems with air-drying (which can distort cellular detail and render the specimen unsatisfactory for evaluation), the preparation of glass slides on-site is no longer recommended. Slide preparation is performed in the Cytopathology Department. If slides are made, immediate fixation is required. Submit brush (in fixative) along with slides.
It is essential to include history of cancer/radiation/chemotherapy on the laboratory requisition. The accompanying laboratory requisition should contain all demographic and pertinent clinical information.
