Purpose

This assay is used to verify that sperm have been successfully excluded from the ejaculate after vasectomy.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Ejaculate

Container/Tube: Sterile Plastic Container

Specimen Volume: Entire Ejaculate

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL


Collection Instructions:

1. Post - vasectomy check -  6 weeks after surgery

2. There should be a minimum of 6 ejaculations prior to collection to be tested. Seminal fluid is collected by masturbation into a specimen container provided. Delivered to the laboratory within 2 hours of collection.

3. Label container with patient’s name, identification number, date and time of collection, and type of specimen.

4. Specimen should be maintained at body temperature (37 *C).
