Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Vaginal

Collection Container/Tube: Swab
Specimen Volume: Swab in Container

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Send specimen in original tube.

2. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,

    date & time of collection, and person collecting.

3. Keep specimen at room temperature during transport.

 

Reference Values

NORMAL FLORA:

Staph. coagulase negative

Diphtheroids Alpha or Gamma streptococci

Neisseria sp., not gonococcus

Lactobacilli

 

PATHOGENS:

Staphylococcus coagulase positive

Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Neisseria meningitidis

Candida albicans

Gardnerella vaginalis

Grp A beta hemolytic streptococci

Grp B beta hemolytic streptococci

Streptococcus pneumoniae (OB Patients)

Haemophilus ducreyi (Causes Chancroid Disease - Tropical Areas)
