Test Code 8848 Phosphorus (Urine)
Purpose
To determine phosphorus levels. High urinary phosphorus (ie, increased renal losses) occurs in primary hyperparathyroidism, vitamin D deficiency, Fanconi syndrome, renal tubular acidosis, rickets, osteomalacia, or diuretic use. Low phosphorus is found in hypoparathyroidism, pseudohypoparathyroidism, vitamin D intoxication.

Specimen Volume: Entire 24-Hour Collection
Collection Instructions:
1. For 24 Hour Urines: Refrigerate during collection
and follow instructions for “24 Hour Urine Collection”
under “Specimen Collection and Handling” within the
links menu on the left side of the screen.)
2. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,
date & time of collection (Both Start & End Times for
24-Hour Urines) and person collecting.
3. Refrigerate specimen during transport.
