Purpose

To identify sources of Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus. VRE is an emerging cause of nosocomial and life threatening infections. Infections with VRE have been associated with a significant morbidity, mortality and costs.

Collection Instructions:

1. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,

    date & time of collection, and person collecting.

2. Keep specimen at room temperature during transport.
