Test Code 8578 D-immune Globulin (Postpartum)

Important Note

D Immune Globulin should be administered within 72 hours of suspected fetal-maternal hemorrhage.

Rhogam Post Natal is given if the following criteria are met: an Rh-negative Mother with no active Anti-D that has given birth to an Rh positive infant. (In instances where the Rh status of the infant is not known a dose of Rhogam is recommended.)

Patient must have been typed at Copley Hospital as Rh-negative, Du-negative. Patient must show no prior demonstration of alloimmunization to D. 

Purpose

The test is intended for the detection of D-positive red blood cells in D-negative mothers after delivery, in order to determine if patient needs additional Rhogam.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood (Plasma or Serum)

Container/Tube: Lavender Top

Specimen Volume: Full Tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Collect a lavender top tube drawn from an Rh negative mother

     1 Hour after delivery of all products of conception.

2. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,

    date & time of collection, and person collecting.

3. Keep specimen refrigerated during transport.

 

Reference Values

Negative: Single Dose of Rhogam

Positive: Multiple Doses of Rhogam may be Required

(Fetal-maternal hemorrhage in excess of 30 ml of whole

blood. Further testing needed to determine dose.)
