Diagnosing and managing diabetes mellitus and other carbohydrate metabolism disorders including gestational diabetes, neonatal hypoglycemia, idiopathic hypoglycemia, and pancreatic islet cell carcinoma.

Specimen Type: Blood (Plasma or Serum)
Preferred: Light-Green Top
Acceptable: Gold Top
Specimen Volume: Full Tube
Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,
date & time of collection and person collecting.
2. If delay in specimen transport > 1 hour, centrifuge tube.
3. Refrigerate specimen during transport.

Normal Values: 1 day old 40 - 100 mg / dL
1 - 9 days old 50 - 110 mg / dl
Adult 70 - 116 mg / dL
Critical Values: < 60 mg / dL >400 mg / dL
