Test Code 18795 D-immune Globulin (Prenatal)

Important Note

D Immune Globulin should be administered within 72 hours of suspected fetal-maternal hemorrhage.

To confirm Rh negative status an ABO and Rh type is required prior to issuing Rhogam.

Rhogam is only given if Patient was typed at Copley Hospital as Rh-negative, Du-negative and shows no prior demonstration of alloimmunization to D.

A full dose of RhoGAM is recommended for bleeding episodes when patient is still pregnant.

Purpose

The test is intended for the detection of D-positive red blood cells in D-negative mothers, in order to determine if patient needs additional Rhogam.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood (Plasma)

Container/Tube: Lavender Top

Specimen Volume: Full Tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Send specimen in original container.

2. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,

     date & time of collection, and person collecting.

3. Keep specimen refrigerated during transport.

 

If an ABO/Rh is required: 

Specimen Type: Blood (Plasma or Serum)

Container/Tube: Pink Top

Specimen Volume: Full Tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 5 mL

Reference Values

Negative: Single Dose of Rhogam

Positive: Multiple Doses of Rhogam may be Required

(Fetal-maternal hemorrhage in excess of 30 ml of whole blood.

Further testing needed to determine dose.)
