Important Note

This test must be collected on ice and centrifuged within 15 minutes of collection. 

Purpose

The lactic acid test measures lactate levels in the blood to screen for lactic acidosis.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Blood (Plasma)

Container/Tube: Light-Green Top

Specimen Volume: Full Tube 

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Patient should not exercise for several hours before testing.

2. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,

     date & time of collection, and person collecting.

3. Collect on ice and transport specimen to laboratory immediately.

Normal: 0.7 - 2.1 mmol / L
