Test Code 18043 Hemoglobin and Hematocrit

Important Note

Can be ordered individually or as part of a larger panel: Hemogram without Differential, CBC with Differential, or Prenatal Hematology.

Purpose

Measure the percentage of red blood cells and amount of hemoglobin in your bloodstream. This can be useful for diagnosing disorders such as anemia or monitoring their progress.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole Blood

Container/Tube: Lavender Top

Specimen Volume: Full Tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL

 

Collection Instructions:

1. Invert tube 8 times immediately after collection.

2. Label specimen with patient’s full name, date of birth,

    date & time of collection, and person collecting.

3. Refrigerate specimen during transport.

Hematocrit:              Male: 45 - 52 %               Female: 37 - 47 %            Critical: < 25 %

Hemoglobin:            Male: 13 - 17 g / dL         Female: 12 - 16 g / dL
